About Watsu® I Course

 

Watsu® is a form of aquatic bodywork used for deep relaxation and is characterised by one-on-one sessions in which a practitioner gently cradles, moves, stretches, and massages a receiver in warm water.

 

This beautiful practice shows a breadth of physical and mental health benefits both for Watsu clients and practitioners. 

The Watsu® I training is designed to welcome new aspiring practitioners to their professional certification journey as well as allows existing practitioners and Watsu® students to fine-tune and build upon existing skills.

This intensive hands on course is intended for anyone interested in warm water therapy, whether it is for personal enjoyment and self-development, or for professional development. 

After participating in this course, students typically report that not only have they gained wonderful new practical aquatic therapy skills, but that they were also left with a lasting sense of well-being, a sense of connectedness, reduced stress levels, and profound and memorable experience which they will treasure for the rest of their lives.

Outcomes of successfully completing this course

 

  • Students will be able to perform a basic 30 minute to 1 hour of Watsu® session.

  • Receive an internationally recognised professional certificate. 

  • Eligibility to get a listing as a Watsu® Student on the official WABA (World Wide Aquatic Bodywork Association) Registry.

  • Acquire 50 experience hours towards practitioner certification

  • Eligibility to enrol to intermediate courses such as Watsu® II and Healing Dance® I.

You will learn

 

  • Techniques of how to stay grounded whilst floating a client in chest-level warm water.

  • Mindful breathing and how to coordinate movement and breath to establish a connection.

  • The Watsu sequence, backbone positions and movements using appropriate application and contra-indications for each move. 

  • Body mechanics, body alignment, balanced footing and proper stance to utilise the water properties.

  • How to move the receiver from position to position in a seamless way, maintaining fluidity of movements throughout a session.

  • To develop awareness of the receiver’s rhythm, applying stillness and dynamic movement.

  • To become familiar with the correct use of communication, boundaries, standards of an ethical practice within a therapeutic context.

  • Self-care whilst supporting and moving others as effortlessly as possible in the water.

  • About the concept of Zen Shiatsu.

  • Exploring and sharing what “being held” means.

  • The professional parameters of being a Watsu Practitioner.

  • What is the optimum pool requirements for aquatic bodywork sessions (depth, temperature, etc.)4

Duration, delivery, and study load

 

This is an intensive 50 hours, 6 day course delivered through face to face and hands on training sessions in the pool as well as on land.

​This course involves about 30 hours of pool practice, with the remaining 20 hours involving discussions, meditation, movement exercises, lectures and videos, on land.

  • A digital copy of the course Class Manual will be sent to you prior to the course commencement date.

  • Floats for use in the water during course hours are supplied by the venue.

  • Textbook “Watsu® Basic and Explorer Path" by Harold Dull (the father of Watsu) is available at the venue for reading during course hours.

What to bring

 

  • Printed or digital copy of the class manual. 

  • Notebook and pen.

  • 2 sets of bathers.

  • 2 sets of towels/bath robes.

  • Flip flops / slippers for convenience.

  • Water bottle.

  • If you require ear plugs please bring enough pairs for the duration of the course.

  • Toiletries, and skin care products for after pool use. 

  • Comfortable clothes for land classes, and for after pool time.

To enrol in a course: 


1. The course deposit (see Course Fees below) and a completed enrolment form are required in order to secure your spot in the course


2. The full course fees are payable once the course is confirmed by the Australian Institute of Aquatic Bodywork (AIAB) no later than 30 days before the course commencement date.

Course fees

 

AUD600 deposit in order to enrol + AUD990 once your receive the course confirmation email.

The price includes: 

  • Vegetarian food and drink provisions for students to use during the hours of the course.

  • Use of the training centre during the hours of the course, including the pool, the kitchenette, the outdoor lounge area, the sitting areas inside the venue ang changing rooms and showers.

  • Free parking on-site.

  • Digital copy of the course manual

  • Professional certificate upon successful completion of the course.

Cancellation policy

 

If the AIAB cancels the course: 


The student will be entitled to a full refund including the deposit. This includes any exchange rate that the student might have endured. This excludes any other expenses the student endured such as for travel bookings and/or cancellation of accommodation. 

If a student cancels their enrolment: 


Any refund or/and cancellation requests must be made in writing to: info@aquanat.com.au

  • Cancellation more than 60 days before the course commencement date: Full refund.

  • Cancellation less than 60 days and more than 30 days before the course commencement date: 50% refund.

  • Cancellation less than 30 days: Nil refund , full course fee 100% will be payable.

  • Once the course is confirmed: Nil refund , full course fee 100% will be payable.
