At the Australian Institute of Aquatic Bodywork (AIAB), we see water as is more than just a medium — it’s a space for healing, learning, and transformation. Whether you're attending a WATSU® session in Perth, receiving aquatic therapy, or travelling from across Australia or overseas to join our Aquatic Bodywork training courses, the quality of the water you enter is essential to your experience and wellbeing.

That’s why we’ve invested in a major upgrade to our pool system:

Introducing Our New UV Filtration System!

— a powerful, chemical-free solution that enhances water purity and safety for every client and student. The result? Cleaner, safer water that’s gentle on the body — ideal for therapeutic use, including sensitive clients and those with complex health needs.

💧Why UV + Chlorine = The Gold Standard

While our pool has always been meticulously maintained, this new dual system allows us to:

  • Reduce the need for high chlorine levels

  • Improve water clarity and quality

  • Maintain optimal hygiene without harsh chemical residue

  • Support those with skin sensitivities or allergies

  • Create the best possible environment for aquatic therapy and bodywork

Together, UV and low-dose chlorine work in harmony — chlorine acts as a residual disinfectant, and UV offers an added assurance of purity at the microbial level.

🌿 What Is UV Filtration — and Why It Matters in Aquatic Therapy and Training

UV (ultraviolet) filtration is a cutting-edge water treatment method that neutralises 99.9% of bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms — without adding chemicals. When combined with our carefully balanced chlorine levels, this dual system ensures:

  • Skin-friendly water for sensitive clients

  • Reduced chemical exposure for a more comfortable experience

  • Improved air and water quality in our warm therapy pool

  • Eco-conscious operation with lower chlorine use

  • Enhanced safety for extended aquatic therapy and training sessions

This system is ideal for hydrotherapy, WATSU®, and aquatic wellness programs, especially for individuals with allergies, chronic conditions, or complex health needs.

🧘‍♀️ Designed for Healing and Professional Growth

AIAB is not a public pool. We are a private, purpose-built aquatic therapy and training centre located in Perth, Western Australia — and we welcome students and clients from across the country and around the world.

Our pool is always:

  • Warm (34–35°C) to support deep relaxation and therapeutic benefit

  • Filtered and tested daily to meet the highest hygiene standards and those set by the Department of Health

  • Optimised for healing and learning — from gentle aquatic therapy to advanced WATSU® practitioner training

Whether you're here for a private aquatic therapy session in Perth or attending a professional aquatic bodywork course from interstate or overseas, you can trust that our water is safe, clean, and supportive of your journey.

🌊 Why Water Quality Matters in Aquatic Bodywork Training

For those training to become WATSU® practitioners or studying Aquatic Bodywork techniques, the water environment is part of the learning. Our UV system ensures:

  • A comfortable and safe space for extended practice

  • A professional standard for future practitioners to model

  • A clean, spa-like atmosphere that enhances focus and connection

As the Australian Institute of Aquatic Bodywork, we’re proud to set a benchmark in both aquatic therapy services and training excellence.

🧴 Why We Don’t Use Magnesium or Salt Systems

While magnesium and saltwater pools are often marketed as natural or therapeutic, they still produce chlorine as a by-product and do not meet WA Health Department regulations for commercial pool sanitation on their own.

Furthermore, although magnesium is promoted for its skin absorption benefits, studies show that absorption during aquatic sessions is minimal, even after extended exposure.

At AIAB, we use a UV filtration system combined with a minimal, carefully regulated amount of chlorine — a method chosen for:

  • Compliance with health standards

  • Effective neutralisation of bacteria and viruses

  • Reduced skin sensitivity and chemical load

  • Clear, gentle water without the strong chlorine smell

Our clients consistently report that the water feels silky, clear, and soothing — ideal for long therapy sessions and intensive training.

🧖‍♀️ Supporting Students During Long Training Days

During Aquatic Bodywork training intensives, students spend many hours in the water. To maintain water quality and support skin health, we recommend:

  • Showering before pool entry

  • Avoiding lotions, oils, and residual shampoos

  • Using toilets rather than the pool

  • Keeping post-session showers short or cool to preserve the skin’s natural pH and moisture barrier

These simple practices help us maintain a clean, safe, and respectful environment for everyone — and ensure that our pool remains a place of healing and learning.
